News and Updates
News is confirmed all 25 climbers made it to the top of Kilimanjaro
--which is unheard of to have a 100% success rate! 2 world records
have been broken to have the youngest blind climber to summit
(Max) and the largest group of blind climbers to summit (8 in total).
I have goose bumps!! History had been made and hopefully
misconceptions about blindness have been somewhat
eradicated!!!!!! ( This info comes from Lisa Chiles )

See Kili Our Way

Summer 2009, eight blind students from the
Foundation for Blind Children, along with 19 guides, will make
the trek to summit Mt Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Africa. Standing
19,340 ft, Kilimanjaro is the highest freestanding mountain in
the world and dominates its landscape unlike any other mountain.
This climb is both physically and mentally demanding, making
this truly an amazing task!

Crowned by eternal snows, the mighty Kilimanjaro looms over
five Eco-systems, creating rapidly changing environments for
our climbers. The team will spend eight nights on the mountain,
summiting on the seventh day. The quest will be led by
International Mountain Specialist and World-Adventurer,
Kevin Cherilla. Kevin has led over 100 to the top, including two
blind individuals, ranging in age from 13 to 79. His success rate
has been over 80% compared to the international success rate
of less than 50%.

There is no question, each climber, blind and sighted, has a tall
road ahead and without question, this road will be truly life changing.
This trip is not just about individual goals. It’s about what each
individual climber stands for – the hopes and dreams of the blind
around the world. We invite you join our journey!
