Before Kyokushin
Erik began martial arts in 1993 with an instructor who taught a full-circle approach combining grappling, wrestling, Jujitsu, boxing, and Karate. He trained with that instructor for several years and reached brown belt.
In the late 1990s, Erik moved from California to Indiana and continued training independently and with other martial artists. In 2001, he moved to Arizona and trained under additional instructors.
Finding Kyokushin
In 2003, Erik felt something was missing from his training and was introduced to Hanshi Fred Buck. He recognized Kyokushin as the art he had been looking for.
He trained under Hanshi Fred Buck until early 2006, when he moved to Saint Johns, Arizona.
Teaching and Recognition
Hanshi Fred Buck gave Erik a black instructor's belt and authority to open a School of the Tiger in Saint Johns. The White Mountain School of the Tiger opened in May 2006.
In July 2009, Hanshi awarded Erik the rank of Shodan Ho and the title of Sensei. In 2010, at Battle in the Desert in Elko, Nevada, Hanshi named him the American Kyokushin Karate Organization Instructor of the Year.
